Released in 2010, the centennial year of Gard's birth, this is the
first publication of the newly-formed Wisconsin Writers
Association (WWA) Press. Gard founded the WWA in 1948.
LaMoine MacLaughlin, former President of the Robert E. Gard
Wisconsin Idea Foundation, is editor of The Hometown Gazette and
co-founder and Executive Director of the Northern Lakes Center for
the Arts and the Northern Lakes School of the Arts, located in
northern Wisconsin. The Center has been included in the book, The
100 Best Small Arts Towns in America, and has been described by the
Executive Director of the Wisconsin Arts Board as "...One of
Wisconsin's most vibrant arts organizations." Mr. MacLaughlin has
been very active in arts leadership positions at the state and
national levels, including serving as President of the Wisconsin
Writers Association. In 1996 he and his wife, Mary Ellen,
received the Wisconsin Governor's Award in Support of the Arts, and
in 1999 the Rural Genius Award from the Front Porch Institute. In
2003 MacLaughlin was appointed first Poet Laureate of Amery,
Wisconsin. A collection of his poetry, A Scent of Lilac, was
published in 2009.
