Poetry with Marilyn L. Taylor

Tuesday Mornings from 10:00am to 11:30am Central

  • January 9th & 23rd
  • February 6th & 20th
  • March 5th & 19th

During the 90-minute Zoom sessions, facilitator Marilyn Taylor will focus on Voice as it relates to poetry. You’ll receive feedback regarding your work from colleagues and a complete critique from instructor Marilyn L. Taylor. This is a safe and supportive space that provides insight and encouragement from like-minded writers. There will be a limit of 8 participants to the group so that everyone receives time and feedback every session. The group is designed for all levels of poetry writers.

    From Marilyn:

“In this workshop, we'll experiment with the rhymed couplet (and its twin sister, the rhymed quatrain); the sonnet; the villanelle; and the pantoum—exposing you to some new stylistic strategies to add to your poetic bag-of-tricks.

Each week, we’ll read examples of how these traditional patterns behave on the page, and also do some exercises as a group. Finally, you’ll be asked to write a poem on your own, and bring it to the next session two weeks later. It will be workshopped in the friendly, supportive environment this poetry series is already famous for!”

The way it works: Zoom links will be sent to writers prior to each session. Participants will share their work electronically. Participants should be familiar with Zoom and willing to read their work aloud during the session. Formatting requirements and critique guidelines will be provided by Ms. Taylor. Please Note: WWA Highly recommends that participants have a computer and reliable access to the internet. It is nearly impossible to participate in the sessions using only a smart phone. Having a rudimentary understanding of Word and Zoom are also recommended.

Member Fee: $150 for all six sessions! Space is limited to a minimum of 6 and a
    maximum of 10 participants.
